REALITY OF SUNSHINE

Waking in the morning to the light

Spreading itself unseen on the backside

Of a gray cloud that blankets the sky

I search for the sunshine

It’s in the sweaty threads of my winter blanket

In my nose and under my armpits

And in the folds of my pyjamas

And in the soothing tones of my Beyond Positive Thinking audio book

It’s everywhere but before my eyes.

I search for the sunshine.

Light follows you, pouring from you like a halo

Your light (mustard coloured sweeping) finds you everyday

It must have been given to you by your mother

Perhaps tucked lovingly between pastel layers in a birthday cake baked years ago

I don’t see the sunshine

But I search for it

Between hidden lips and folds and layers
