“I am the smartest person I know,” he told his girlfriend once. That was right before she left him. And he meant it. His unwavering belief in his own intelligence was like the evangelist’s belief in an all-powerful God. There could be no doubt. “There is nothing more I need to learn,” he would tell his friends, “I have learned it all already.” And there was some truth to his claims, for he made sure to surround himself with people that would never be capable of surpassing his all-powerful intellect. Even his wife was especially picked out of the bunch for her obvious inability to be cerebrally threatening to him. Unchallenged, he remained ignorant of his ignorance his entire life.
